This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Tom Stretz, a remarkable Rotarian whose life is a testament to service, dedication, and passion. Tom’s journey is a fascinating blend of military service, impactful leadership in youth organizations, and a deep commitment to his community.
Tom’s career began with a solid foundation of service, having spent four years in the Air Force as a radio operator in Bremerhaven, Germany, and Da Nang, Vietnam. After his military service, Tom pursued higher education at USC, graduating in 1971. His professional life then took a dynamic turn into the world of commercial insurance, where he not only thrived but eventually became a partner in his agency. After 17 years in this field, Tom redirected his energy towards the YMCA, where he made significant strides as Vice President for the West End YMCA and later as CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood. His commitment to youth continued as he took on the role of CEO at the Los Alamitos Youth Center, a position he held until his retirement in 2010.
Beyond his professional achievements, Tom’s passion lies deeply with his family—particularly his beloved “Redhead.” At 80 years old, Tom remains actively engaged and continues to find joy in working and staying active. His guilty pleasure? Traveling the world, a pursuit he has been fortunate to indulge in, enriching his life with diverse experiences.

Tom is incredibly proud of his family, including his children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He takes immense pride in his contributions to the lives of young people and his years of dedicated service in Rotary. Tom finds the most rewarding part of his Rotary involvement in the interactions with fellow members and the leadership opportunities that come with participating in community projects and fundraisers.
Tom’s story is one of dedication, service, and a zest for life, making him a treasured member of our Rotary family.
